Newbi room

Post by TheUnknown »

I hope something will be done about the newb room I for one stoped filling it up cuz others are making money off the stuff I have been putting in there like scrolls to fill up spell books to sell on venders.
Can't you(Admin) make it so only the main char can go in and only if he/she is under 1000 points in skills.. cuz the mian char can always pass stuff to his/her other char..

it could theoretically be coded that you cold only drop stuff in, but never take out(/open), when your account age is too high.
the same way the auction drop box allows you to drop stuff in, but never to open (unless admin)

alternative would be to make it so that every drag drop is logged in said chests, but since some people might take it upon themselves to organise the box a bit, taht would create massive false positives. (do.not.want.)

last time i checked, there was ample gear, though

I just got all steamed up... I had put 2 set of 4pc armor that took me a better part of 3 days to get and then I see it on a vender for 20k and on top of that I spent a few hrs filling it up with everything armor, weapons, regs, scrolls and even gold some times to help the new players and it's the none newb's that are taking it all or taking all the good stuff.

Ok the thing with newbie donation boxes... Like Alewar said it can be coded with certain limits, for example so that only players that meet certain criteria can take from them, but i'm not sure... It would still be possible for a 2-day old player to come and take it all out.

I would however still suggest you do not put very uber stuff in there... I will think about it, but well there will always be ways to get to items inside.

And to any bin rider out there i'd like to say: I know it feels good to get a couple ten thousand gold just out of nowhere (by selling the rided items) but you should be aware that you are ruining it for the others aswell for yourself.

I will think about this a little, although if this continues and there's no good ideas how to efficiently close all the ways of raiding, I might just close them.

Well i got a few ideas,

Simmilarly as the price stays on the vendor item if you move it around the pack, maybe it could log only the items that were lifted and then not put back in over a minute. All these items would then be put on a list and their location can be checked by whichever staffer wants to check it :) There would be a nice gold fine and some jailtime for whoever breaks the so obvious signs in the donation room.

Also, should a player over 3 weeks of age take an item out, it would be returned to the box automatically after 30 seconds.

I suppose if anyone wants this challenge to script it, go ahead, but if nobody takes on it and this continues to be a problem I'll make it.

I've played where, there is a new player chest, and as you take out an item, it says "you have taken 1 of 10 possibilities!" and so on, counting down until you have taken out 10 things. Any player can drop in, but only players with 3 days (rl) age could reach in and take up to 10 things. After that (or after 10 items are taken), when you would click the chest , the chest wouldn't open and you get a message that 'you are welcome to contribute items at your current status'. Even if we had multiple chests like now with specific categories, maybe set it so you can take 3 things from each chest. Just a thought

I didn't and don't mind when someone takes something if it's something they can use but to take stuff to sell that just bugged me a lot.

I hope someone does write the code for you because you have so much on your plate I would think you would like to play your game and have fun, you have done what I think is a VERY good job on your server and probly put a lot of your time into it.

For someone like me that has a lot of time and nothing to do thanks you for having your server up.

I will keep up filling it with good stuff it wouldn't be fair to the newbie's and I want to repay what I had taken and what was given to me by players... that made my day when players gave me stuff I never asked for.

also, ppl arent really keeping the newbi room chests...organized. i went in with a young player to get him some stuff and underneath (idk for sure but this is an example) weapons- i found scrolls, candles, instruments, a pet bonding to deed that was specific for 1 person, it was a mess, is there anyway to maybe set a time limit on items that don't get taken in about a week they get trashed? so at least there can be some organization- cuz i no u cant stop ppl from putting the wrong objects in the wrong chest

the current setup of the newbie chests is great for a mature shard of responsible players...however, as the evidence clearly suggests, we are not all mature enough for the system to work as it should.

My suggestion would be harder to code and implement from the looks of it but i've seen it work very well on a shard that i've played on for about 3 years. It involves having an area exclusively for newbies (the current training room would be perfect) and only players of a certain account age can be allowed to enter, other players get auto teleported out. In this area there would be all the newbie chests. Other players will be able to donate items via the [donate command which will bring up a target to select items to donate. Once donated, of course, there is no way of getting it back (this i think would be fine since we are all mature and can deal with it).

I've never had any problems aside from accidentally donating something that i didnt mean to but i learnt from that and it wasnt a big deal...just helped a newbie out better than usual.

just my two cents...

On a similar note like Sean's, can we have it so that when we drop an item(s) into the donation chest(s) it gets sent to a recieving chest located inside the newbie dungeon which is alredy coded for Young players only? It has been way too long since I had coded anything for UO that I do not know how possible that would be.

Or someone would need to wait for an admin and ask to fix's thing up in there and as a reword they get a pick of anything in there. I wouldn't mine doing it every few days and maybe get something out of it..

perhaps add a property ("second-hand" yes/no)to items dropped into the boxes that prevents them from being placed in vendors or trade windows, and make it so accounts over a certain age can only drop things into the boxes.
