newbie - suggestion

Post by Adamod »

Hi all,let me introduce myself. i m Adamod, and i m just back after almost 10 years.i played mostly on italian freeshard (Helios/D&W), and i m looking for some friend to enjoy the game !
I d like to have some suggestion about:
to make a little money so i can go on with all the basic teach skill and to buy some staff so i can grow up with no stress ?
i have played for many many years a warmage, i remember some skill were harder to raise. so i started with 50 healing and 50 magery. right now i m just raising some basic skill like the lore one, even to raise int. i saw i can raise 1 skill by 60. what u suggest ? is better to complete first the mage skill or the combat one to be able to be of some help ?
is there a list of all taming horse/zos and all armor/weapon are in game ?

I ll appreciate any suggestion.
C u in game

Hello and welcome!

There is a lot of info for players on the wiki and the new players guide is here:

http://www.uoex.net/wiki/New_Players_Guide

In terms of making a bit of easy money to start with, many players do the escorts of NPCS to other towns, as I think you can do these every 5 mins and they are a risk free source of gold, you can use the town teleporters to take them to their location. If you say "destination" to an NPC that needs escorting, they will tell you where they need to go and then just say " I will take thee", go through the teleporter and then they will pay you the reward.

Skills raise fast on this server, so I would save the skill ball for something tricky, Magery and healing are fairly easy skills to reach high level at.

You can find info about tamable on the wiki too, there are some great custom tamables, Mules and Nobles are great, but require high animal lore and taming skill. Once you reach 60 taming, you can craft your way to the top, which is a lot faster, although costs money for materials: http://www.uoex.net/wiki/Taming_Skill_Guide

thanks Opopanax !
i m studing very hard to understand how to play now. i was still on the idea of the old stile UO playgame.
All the new skill and abilities seems hard to understand.
I see skill raising is very fast. i started yesterday and i m now already about 1700 tot skill, i ll have to start the combat now , cause all the others need a lots of money to be done !
Do you have any suggestion for a starting ibrid stat cap ? is like 100 100 100 reasonable or useless ? i still have to get how it works in here. and i m looking for a way to be able to be helpful in a short way, so i can join a guildie and go to some dungeon :)
is mining a way of do some money ? is there a decent market for the good metal ? is possible to smelt every single ore to raise fast mining ?
Tnx

type [exex

It opens an auction house of sorts. There are exex deposit boxes by almost all banks that allow you to put gold/goods into your account. You can see current prices, it takes a little bit to understand, but you can make a lot of gold that way.

There is always a demand for ores and lumber, but certain ones always sell for a lot more than others

Bandaids *cut cloth 2 times to get them* One of the best ways to heal.

The monsters on this server are WAY harder than on the original game. You will want to raise animal taming, animal lore and veterinary as fast as possible. Pets will help you a lot on here. Mules are the one of the better starting pets. There is animal breeding on this server which makes almost all animals better. If you get a pet you want to keep make sure you get it 'bonded', you can find bonding deeds at Trinsic Bank on the Token stone. Bonded means they will not vanish when the die, they get a ghost and you can resurrect it like a player if you have enough Animal Lore and Veterinary.

For stats, I think it will depend on what style you want to play. If you want to go as a tamer/mage then 100 each stat will probably be good, but there is a ceiling on how far you can go with using a tamer style play, but there is certainly a lot of content that you can take on with good pets, especially mules and better (nobles/imprisoned pets) as Sir Blood pointed out. Stat increase is also slow here as there is a limit to how fast you can increase your stats, its only once ever 15 mins, so it will take a while.

Most people will aim for a dex build, as builds with highest survivability and potential for damage are high dex build, as healing with bandages becomes instant at 220 dex. So given that stats are hard to raise and lower, you may want to aim for 125 str and dex and 50 int, but it depends how you want to play.

Bonding any good pets is a must, as Sir Blood said, but be careful of stat loss. Most pets can roll a stat loss on death (with the exception of imprisoned pets) I think it's 1/4 chance?

You can make money with mining, and sell the ingots on [exex. You can also smelt the ores 1 by 1 to maximise your gains.

Welcome!

Because there's no skill cap here and training most skills is relatively easy, you'll find that magery is strictly a support skill: everybody has it but nobody particularly relies on it for their attacks.

Most folks play the early game as tamers. If you start with 50 taming, it's very easy to train it to 90 (with crafting of all things) and not terribly hard to train it to 120. More, player-bred animals with 1000 str and 1000 hp are readily available. These animals can out-hit and out-tank anything you can do directly as an early-game character.

The mid-game becomes all about 220 dex. Equipped with the stuff that boosts your dex to 220, bandages have no healing delay and the accompanying stamina lets you swing most weapons at max speed.

Wil

thanks for all the suggestion !
for now i ll aim 125 str/dex and 50 int , seems to be a good starting point.
So magery has to reach 120 or is useless ? seems to be here to be a mage is a sort of options. i was thinking about a paladin ... usually is a good heavy tank with some heal/support skill ... and i d love to be a tamer again ! so I have already started raising animal lore and taming (even if seems to me taming isn t moving at all, while tryin to tame i get animal lore... )
will be back with more question as soon as i get it...
tnx guys!

You can get 120 Animal Taming on this server without ever taming an animal! There is a crafting skill that raises animal taming. Animal lore is easy to cap, go to the zoo and afk lore ^_^

There are pieces of jewelry that will raise your animal taming to make it easier to craft your way up. Start out buying skill from NPC then get ahold of jewelry that will raise it (Can sometimes find players willing to loan jewelry out as long as it gets back to them)
