Single target, best weapon

Post by Xavian »

Single target, no AOE, with weapon specials. Assuming all weapons have the same hits (FB, Lightning, Harm HLD, ML). If you had to pick one, what would it be and why?

Yumi, Ornate Axe or Double Axe?

Yumi. I'm a mid-level player at best. I don't use razor or steam or anything else, but I do use imp pets and keeping my distance keeps me alive a little longer.

That's a good practice until you can take some heavy hits. Most mobs don't have ranged attacks.

I've known a few people that take down Balrons in just a few swings and they use Ornate Axes. You do have to be able to take a lot of damage to go in melee though

Ornate Axe seems to be the most effective for me in farming Balrons

Ornate Axe and get the RPD damage too is my opinion. I like double axe becuase of the double strike and ww ability.

That seems to be the route I have been taking lately. I'm over 250% RPD, so I'll take the hits. I've been debating on the double axe though for that same reason. Not convinced yet though

I never liked Ornate Axe. It has very slightly higher damage with crushing blow and high base damage than other weapons, but it's very situational. Unlike yumi you need to run after monster when he flees at low hp, not mentioning that ornate axe can't be used for monsters you don't want to melee with. And Double Axe obiously has whirlwind, so its faster to switch attacking macro from whirlwind to double strike, than to change weapon in addition.
So if original weapon has area, then better to make it Double Axe. Without area, it's probably better to make yumi, though Double Axe without area can have uses(as for now only in labyrinth to avoid Rends).
If you want to hunt balrons all day, then Demon Slayer Ornate Axe is slightly better. For anything else, yumi/Double Axe/War Hammer are more convineient.

You eventually will have a series of 2-3 weapons possibly more for specific situations.

Yumi - possibly just a regular bow/crossbow with NO AoE (Area of Effect)
Whirlwind weapon - has mana (and probably Health) drain along with 1 or 2 AoE properties
Meele weapon - single target no AoE

- - - -

Ranged weapon - with 2-3 AoE properties (great for champions when you don't want to go Druid and there are multiple people there, also beneficial in Gauntlet with multiple people in your party)

PVP weapons - 1 or 2 specifically designed for PvP
