New auction idea...
New auction idea...
Hear me out... Impounded weapons. Except the person who lost it, can't ever own it again. Eh? I like it! It adds insult to injury!!
Re: New auction idea...
I like the idea, well even if the player is able to buy it back, no biggie (they can just get a friend to buy it for them).

I had that thought. I was thinking something like account bound, but the opposite. Instead of belonging to a single account, it is banned to a single account.+Colibri wrote:I like the idea, well even if the player is able to buy it back, no biggie (they can just get a friend to buy it for them).
Re: New auction idea...
I think there should be an Easter token auction. The further out it's announced the more people will save up tokens for it and the auction will take a lot of the tokens out of the economy. Come on +C....pleeeeeeeease.

Re: New auction idea...
Absolutely! I've had the thought before as well. I'm sure there are quite a few nice weapons impounded permanently over the past decade. Of course, they may have been completely deleted as well thoughlnickos wrote:Is this in response to the informative and newsworthy Constabulary Report by +Colibri found here?
Re: New auction idea...
I know this is something that will be very difficult but I think a monthly auction would be amazing. This auction can be player run and items can be put into a drop box and auctioned off and the selling can get the money with a small cut for the person running the auction. I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to get involved in something like that or if there are even items that people would be willing to auction but I do think it would be very cool to have.
Would be even cooler if it was a GM ran auction but I also understand staffing is an issue and it's difficult to task and set up. I STILL LOVE THE IDEA THOUGH!!!!

Re: New auction idea...
How about a different angle...
Remove auctions altogether (or maybe yearly)
Replace with Super Vendor/s.
Where the neat things can be purchased anytime. Using data from years of previous auctions as a guide.
For Example :- say a Titan Hammer has sold for between 200-275 million gold at auctions(hypothetical only), on vendor they could be 300-350 million purchasable anytime.
Gives people who can't attend auctions a mild, yet still daunting chance, of obtaining something amazing.
Personally I am coming up to 3 years here at this wonderful shard and still enjoying my time immensely. Every auction though has fallen up weekends that I was working, so between that and timezone differences - no chance for me - even if I did have the vast vaults of gold needed.

There have been many player run auctions in the past. Guilds used to do them quite regularly.Vedestril wrote:I know this is something that will be very difficult but I think a monthly auction would be amazing. Re: New auction idea...
Titans Hammers are regularly available on vendors for 5,000 EDs, or 250-275 mil. I've seen quite a few auction items go directly from the auction to vendors. Auctions are a great way to drain some of the mass gold stores out of the server. The items are rare, and that is what makes them valuable. If they could be bought everyday they wouldn't be as valuable.Possum12 wrote:Replace with Super Vendor/s.

*sighs*
Don't really see how being able to buy something for like 350 million is going to "flood" the market?
Titan Hammer was just an example, lets say make it - Pink Wooden Clogs of Aggro nearby creatures for 300 million. I really want them clogs, save the gold up, but can never make an auction. Thereby tears well up thinking of them clogs I'll never get.....
A vendor type would surely still take vasts of game gold out of play - without everyone running around in my clogs taunting me?
Don't really expect it to happen, was just a different view.
As an afterthought - does the ED room make those things less valuable?

Re: New auction idea...
The super vendor idea isn't terrible, could also be hard to access, kind of like having to use a portal map from Slarrion to use your elven notes. Only able to buy 1 item in a set amount of time or something?
A gold sink is a gold sink, either way in my opinion.
Probably would sink a lot more gold if it was available more often.
There is a down side to auctions, its very, very discouraging for new and mid level players.
You see a lot of money being thrown around by the richest players, and it seems impossible to ever compete with that.
Maybe not having it on display for everyone to see, would be a good thing?

This is sooo very true! I was in the most recent auction and I just started playing. I knew I didn't have a lot of gold but thought I might have a chance at maybe one item. most starting bids were around 5-10 mil right off the bat. Items being bid started at more money then I had currently meant I wasn't going to get anything.
I even received the comment that I may have made the lowest bid ever recorded on the server at almost 500k for an item that didn't do anything special which immediately jump to 10m on the next bid. After sitting in the auction for about 30 minutes I just decided it was best for me to leave as it was a total waste of my time. There weren't items special for new players that only people of certain age could bid on or use so I knew there was 0% chance of me getting anything.
I also understand I'm still new and one day I will be the one bidding over everyone else so others can't get the item I want so I felt okay with how the auction happened.
I do however think that more auctions should occur. I understand that staffing is an issue but even a player run auction would be something amazing!

I think the purpose of the auctions is to give the old timer rich players a little playground
