Class for an old school newbie?

Post by Mtandkids »

Hello everybody. After many years away I am giving UO another go. By Years away...I stopped playing before all this “lower regrant percent gear.” That’s right lol - I had to pay my way to 100 magery, and owning a silver Viking sword of vanquishing was all the rave.

Now that I have dared myself, any suggestions for a casual player that just wants to fill some free time? I was debating between the classic mage (magery, Evaluate intel, meditation, resist, wrestling, inscription) or the warrior build (swords, parry, tactics, healing, anatomy...I’m sure I’m missing one here)

What would you suggest for a guy that isn’t going to dedicate hours and just fill a couple hours here and there?

Your feedback is really appreciated.

There is not PVP here and Margery is really weak compared to combat here. also, you can pick what style you like but as there is no skill cap you can go well over 700 skill points. I started as a bard/archer/tamer here and just branched out from there. It really depends on what you like to do.

Thank you for the info. I have never had bard or Tamer, that could be fun. Does taming still take forever or do gain stats faster on this server?

Start as a tamer. It's pretty easy; you can read the wiki for information how to train the skill up. You can buy player-bred pets with 1000 str and 1000 hp and then let them do the heavy lifting in fights. For casual play, that'll get you effective fastest.
