Hitting other players or own pets by accident

Post by Gazelle »

Hi there guys,
first of all congratulations to the people involved in this shard, you got a really nice and friendly place here. Am very glad to have found here.

There is one thing that is burning on my tongue for a few days now and after talking about it a few times in chat I got the hint to post about it in the forum, maybe a solution can be found this way or a change could be initiated that might help players who have the same issue.

Basically as things currently are, being able to target other people in your own guild prevents me from joining a guild. I was invited into one early in the game, joined and had to leave it soon after when I watched myself accidentally hitting my pets over and over.

Either you come back from a dungeon and just want to mount your pet... outch! - you were still in war stance...
Or you have to do more manual targeting 'cause things get heated in a dungeon, more mobs are getting aggroed as you initially thought and you have to target mobs in the heat of the battle - outch! You just hit your own pet that is anyway under heavy fire from 8 dragons simultaneously.

I left the guild to not target my pets anymore, until I found a solution. And asked how this works for not just pets but people in guilds - does accidental friendly fire (unwanted accidental pvp then) never happen under the current setting?
+A confirmed that it does. Seeing how this server gives attention to being explicitly pve and moderating indirect pvp actions (such as dragging an aggressive mob to an unsuspecting player), I was surprised about the pvp feature in a guild being neither an opt-in nor even opt-out, but a default setting that you cannot even switch out.

I feel like training within a guild is an action that occurs in controlled times and is way less often than normal gameplay (people fighting i dungeons... farming for things together, battling champs...) where accidental friendly fire can be rather disruptive. So I was suprised about the pvp option being not an option that you first have to explicitly turn on when you want to train with someone... but instead a setting that you cannot control at all ingame.

People advised me to download UOsteam as a workaround as with this you apparently can turn it on and off.
However, aside of the fact that additional addons should be additional help but not what you need to get basic gameplay working (it shouldn't be someting you have to rely on for basic settings) in my case getting UOsteam to run is not that easy - I am on linux and was not yet able to get UOsteam to work.

Which is why I am asking if it is possible to basically initiate a discussion whether we could get pvp in guilds as an opt-in (or at least opt-out-)feature instead of the current incontrollable default upon joining a guild.
