(that's meant to be read with an American accent) parades that go with it. The whole thing grinds my gears, I prefer my sporting spectacles to be more understated and sophisticated, but I guess that's because I don't live in that consumerist, sensationalist society. I hate that people from within the USA try and make it seem like the rest of the world gives a damn about it.
If you participate in no group hobbies which demand your attention and dedication, I kinda feel sorry for you. Those are part of what makes life fun.

If you do have such hobbies, consider carefully whether you're being elitist about other peoples' choice of hobby.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the superbowl and I plan to catch the often amusing halftime commercials on Youtube. But I don't make a habit of sneering at the hundred million folks who find the superbowl a great excuse to drunkenly party all day.

I really don't see why you need to even say this. Pretty sure there's a word for when you judge an entire group of people and their culture as inferior based on stereotypes.

I say sports isn't a good enough reason to change the times, if you start accommodating one group, it will become an endless complaining circle of people that have reasons it should be another time.
Just stick with what you said, have it once a month at pre determined times, and let the prices and the amount of people that show up become part of the luck factor for players to potentially get better prices.
That is the nature of an auction isn't it?
If the point of the auction is to sell the best items in the game for 400 million gold +, why not just make a vendor with set prices like someone suggested before, and avoid all this fuss?

This is for the Grand Auction, not the monthly auction. But I do like the idea of creating a stone with these high end items.

Titan Hammer = 140-160 million gold
Ancient Titan Hammer = 300-350 million gold
Totem slot = 300-400 million gold

Plus other various deeds normally sold at auctions...

auctions are a fun event even for people who cant afford to buy stuff i think they are about more than just sinking gold. selling totems on a stone at a set price is logical if all you want is to sink gold but i like that totems and other stuff like that is hard to get a hold of even if you are super rich. limiting that stuff to once or twice a year keeps it rare and special. if someone really wants a totem they gotta deal with stuff like super bowls, isp outage, falling asleep during the auction or whatever thats part of the game i think. we are getting off the topic now though lol

I agree with culichi. Grand auctions are rarely held at a time that suits anyone living in Australia or New Zealand. The last monthly first day auction did take this into account and that was a very good thing.

I do see your point, and think that Grand Auctions should be done at different times. If it's a Saturday & Sunday event then you can have the Saturday one at 21:00 shard time and the one on Sunday at around 14:00-15:00 shard time.

Having said that, per the flag counter on the website you have about 3/4 of the population that lives in the United States & Canada, whereas only about 3% in Australia.

I am not complaining merely making the point that auction times do not suit every person who plays on the shard. Also your Sunday is my Monday, and the auction times on Sundays clash with working days in Australia. +C asked for feedback so my comment was for his info.

Wow I must log on at the quiet times (only 115-150 players)

Lag must be terrible when those 700k players are logged on.

So this Superbowl... Is it a cooking show or a hairdressing type of show? I'll go for the hair - always an admirer of the old bowl cut.

I've decided to do the auction the following weekend, February 8th & 9th.

Well, yeah getting the items involves getting around obstacles, from power outages and superbowl sundays. Our official anniversary date is February 1st, and over the years when we had an auction around that time, there have been requests (as well as complaints) to hold it some other time. Also, this is in great part because our playerbase is from the US. There might be an important holiday in let's say, some European country, some day of the year, but we probably won't schedule events with taking that into consideration.

I've been curious about Australia as well. Last IDOC, half of the drops were scheduled to take place on Sunday morning, and we can probably do something to make things even more compatible. That's for a different topic, some other day though.

Thank you for accommodating our requests.

The Grand Auction would take place over 2 days. How about just staggering the times like the IDOC?

Say, on Saturday you can do the auction at 22:00 shard time. That makes it 10-11pm in Europe, 4-7pm in the US, and 11am in Australia.

Then, on Sunday you could have it at 17:00 shard time. That's 5-6pm in Europe, 9am-12pm in the US, and 4:am in Australia.

This way everyone around the world should be able to attend at least 1 of the grand auctions. Those times are just a suggestion, you can have it any other time as well...the point is to stagger them by a few hours.

I'm definitely in the "events are hard to attend due to my timezone category" (Australia) and like Muolkes suggestion. For us UO junkies a 4am alarm for an hour long auction is fine before a work day... but having to chuck a sickie to attend, that's when you should seek professional help...

Although the auction was planned for the coming weekend, I wasn't able to get the items ready in time so it will be postponed by another week - the weekend of February 15th-16th.

Is it taking a bit of extra time because you're bringing tokens back as a currency for some items at the grand auctions!?? Nice!
