New player :)

Post by Impius »

Hello everyone!

After a 20-year break from Ultima Online, I've started this adventure again because I really love this open RPG world and the uncountable possibilities of what to do in-game! I can say that the game has changed a lot and I've spent some time inside Excelsior Wiki trying to understand all new mechanics.

I would be grateful if someone could share some info on what skill level, and professions to follow because I just know the basics like going to Covetous or Orc Fort and trying to kill some mobs and it isn't profitable looting 100gp monsters kkkk. So what can I do to farm some money, raise skills and have fun? Everything at the vendor is expensive and those power scrolls are unaffordable! If weren't for the items in the newbie area I wouldn't have anything, thank you for that! So, if anyone could share some tips it would be great!

See you!

if your familiar with the world teleporter there is a section under custom, the newbie training area

the training of your skills first is the more important part, from there you can start to kill bigger and stronger monsters, earn gold faster

Thank you very much! I've spent some time there :D. Now I'm trying to finish part four of ToolMania quest lumberjacking and getting some wood to make Grade A Logs

Welcome back to UO :) yeah first week is mostly training, training, training, (if only you dont want to stay below 1000 skill points to not lose newbie status) which gives you rights to enter newb dungeon, champ, and newbie gift boxes, but usually we just want run and die from first zombie
many guilds have books and with suggestions, also wiki newbie guide has things, but yes basically its, get stronger and kill stronger mobs :D

Thank you very much!! I'm still re-discovering everything. As you said I'm training skills and farming some money at Trammel Dungeons with a PET from Newbie Area (thankfully).

When I played back in the day Animal Taming wasn't as important as now so I'm trying my best. I'm looking forward to raising money and buying some PS Scrolls for Stats and everything else to make my character less killable hahaha! But I can see that some players can kill everything. I was in Tokuno trying to kill a wolf with my pet and the guy just soloed it with a staff, I was shocked :X

If you buy the basic Fletching skill (on up to 6 characters) and get a Bulk Order Deed every hour, I am happy to buy at 1k each.

Anyone who wants to make some easy gold this way, PM me in game.

Welcome to the server!
Don't mind the copy/paste new player info:

https://www.uoex.net/wiki/Main_Page
The best suggestion I can give for just starting out is reading the Wiki, a lot of time and effort was put into there. This server is VERY customized. To be honest it is almost a completely different game. Magic spell Protection is 1,000,000% suggested to keep active at all times! prevents casting interruption!

https://vendors.uoex.net/
When it comes time to look for items, there is actually a search function for finding stuff on vendors. Not all vendor locations have this enabled. There is a Vendor Finder stone in Town center where you enter the EASY UO Id and you are teleported to the vendor and the item you were looking for pops right up.

I would recommend starting with 2 skills maxed Lock Picking and animal Taming, You will get a skill-ball, use it on Lockpicking once you get it to 60 AND have obtained a 120 power scroll (lockpicking is a VERY difficult skill to GM otherwise ^_^ You can easily have NPCs train your miscellaneous skills up for not a lot of gold. Just be mindful if you gain too many skill points you lose your New Player protection! On that note there is NO SKILL CAP! You can have everything raised to 100-120 depending on powerscrolls and elixirs (fighting skills can be raise 10 points beyond cap using elixirs)

Once you get animal taming leveled (you can level it via crafting on this server) you can get a pet and solo quite a bit.

[exex
In game auction house. To load funds you need to drop gold into 'Exex Deposit Box'

Donations
This server accepts donations that keep it up and running, helps pay staff etc. The reward is custom server currency that can really help you when you are starting out. A 20 Euro donation will net you 200 ED. Sell it on the [exex and you get around 9 Million Gold. That will allow you to buy quite a few things right away. 120 Animal Taming, lockpicking just to name a few.

Trainers
A lot of players have them at their houses, these differ from the trainers in the noobie dungeon in 1 major way! They take your skills all the way to 120 if you have used a Power Scroll. Most will happily grant you access to use their trainer. You have to be granted access to be able to use them at all! Fair warning your equipment takes a lot of damage while fighting. Strip down to nothing! Your weapon having any sort of self repair will prevent it from being destroyed! Training room (trainers only goto 100) World Teleporter - Custom - Training Room. There are green dirks around that you can use to get your skill up. Personal trainers can be fought with them as well.

AFK Skill training warning!
For simple skill training that does not net you gold the administration allows AFK skill training. For instance increasing healing for using bandaids to heal (best healing method) Find armor that increases hit points, macro taking it off, putting it back on and using [bandself. Once you get Veterinary levelled find someone's pet that died and go to town trying to use bandaids on it, great way to finish leveling to max skill!

Not allowed examples: mining, killing stuff, harvesting materials like wood.

Again I can't reccommend enough to goto the WIKI and go through it!

A lot of quality of life assistance it granted via assist software that put UO assist to shame (think that was the name of the only UO authorized 3rd party software back in the day). Razor is great for just starting out as it is very easy to get skill macros going and I like the map function on it. Once your character is ready to go out into the real world do to actual fighting other programs will help you out more! A lot of players will say Razor is horrible which is their right to say so also!
- Razor
- UO Steam
- Orion
- Rail
Just to name a few.

Bulk Order Deeds
Great way to get a little extra money by selling them to other players. You can have multiple characters on the server and the only real reason is for Bulk Order Deed farming. Once an hour you can get a bulk order deed from an NPC. If you have 5 or 6 characters doing it it helps out a lot

Voting
Goto Town Center and use the voting stone, it will open your web browser (see online instructions if it doesn't work, something might not be set up right) and goto the 6 voting sites on the main page and vote for the server. This can be done every 20 hours. Each time you vote your reward level increases. Vote regularlly to increase the reward level, if you go too many days in-between it does DOWN! Once you are at 25 you get 1-ED as a reward. They sell on the [exex for 45-50k gold each.

the wiki is very good but caution to use it as a rough guide, some of the values are a bit off as the wiki hasnt been updated in quite a while

Lockpicking is hard to get to 120, not so crazy difficult to level to 100. Then again I did level it over 10 years ago
