Re: Trouble makers hurt the shard

Post by Karianne »

What my questions are is why are people being allowed to harass the staff let alone threaten them with harm?. Is that not a criminal offence irl?. If someone is threatening me with physical harm or harassing me, am I to have no real recourse?. Are they only to be given a slap on the wrist or jailed?. Why are these people being allowed to play on this shard?. I would be extremely disheartened if someone threatened me or any of my family. Is this not a family shard, are our children safe in this environment if nothing is being done to protect the staff who generously volunteer?. Why bother with any rules if they are only being allowed to be broken. What is the real reason behind why they are allowed to continue to play. Should the staff not have protection against this sort of thing, especially since they are personally known by the other staff and the owner. Sorry if this is going to be a touchy subject but I feel it is something that needs to be addressed. Nay and yea sayers have at it, if you please, but it has become a real concern of mine now.

Karianne, this shard IS safe, and I know for sure that one of the people who has threatened the staff no longer plays here. They dont just sit by and idly let these things happen. And I am sure if they saw a need to inform law enforcement they would.

Well I sure hope that in the future the staff/owner are treated much better by certain players as they certainly deserve the best. I love this shard and the main reason why I play here is that there are rules. I used to play WoW and it bothered me daily that people could be ignorant to others and treat people whatever way they chose pretty much. I have played on other UO shards and so far none have been as much as a community and UO family environment as this one. I would be deeply sorry if anything were to threaten that. I like many others just want to play a classic game that is fun, with people I enjoy being with, in a community I want to help make a better place. There are very few games that one can actually strive to be helpful and be a responsible community member, kudos to the creator of UO and the people who run this free shard for all to enjoy...=).

Dude, do u realize that's like telling someone who is being bullied at school to change schools if he/she doesnt want to be beaten? Ppl are entitled to safety and respect for them and their families.

U dont just validate violence and unjustice by hiding away from it. U give ur best to fix it.

cheers.

Agree with hawke and +nyx... be an admin is very ungrateful sometimes... even all +nyx work here its awesome, the new patch with new models and all was her idea right? well bullying it is everywhere, and the society is fighting hard against it... some day maybe we will be better persons, but its a long path to walk...

A noble concept. Sadly, as one looks though history more blood has been spilled over the command to be good to each other than any other Great Idea.

No subjective rule ever proves simple. And there are few more subjective words in the English language than "nice."

People are entitled to safety and decorum. Respect and contempt should both be earned.

Let us not call people names. They can't help that they were born sociopaths, anymore than someone born with Down's Syndrome can help it. Or Autism, or Asperger's Syndrome. Or any of a long list of genetic traits. I don't call them defects because that seems a cruel word to me.

Point is, it is how their brains are wired from birth. There is no cure, no treatment for any of these. Sadly, most sociopaths are just unfit for for society as a whole. Only the ones that learn a moral code that meshes with the socially accepted code can integrate with society with any success.

The people that are causing all this drama and trouble are just not that kind of people. And should be sent away to try and find a group that they can actually enjoy being around, and that accepts their behavior.

It is just as unfair to them as it is to the rest of our little Excelsiorian society to keep them here. They will never be happy where they do not fit in.

So for everybody's benefit, they should be given the opportunity to find a happier home. Pushed from the nest so to speak, that they may learn to fly on their own.

Try to run your brains before typing. I was reffering internet as a whole, not just the community of 200 people here on uoex. More i was attaching to Kariannes post, talking about a game like uo beeing safe for the children. I mean, everyone with common sence knows thats exegerating, creating some sort of a panic if you want. At the end its still a game, you always have log out icon if you feel you re hurt. Cause it is not supposed to be that way.
Game masters loose way to much time with explaining and defending their actions. There is more and more rules and nothing good comes out of it. Base rules and thats it. Game master decides you broke them or didnt, he can twist them if he likes, you cant. Because you should know better. At the end its a game and you never know when the plug will be pulled out, so enjoy it while you can and dont loose the energy for the endless debate who did what.

Krypto, You should try using YOUR brains. This place is meant to be a safe haven for people. That is what it was created for. hence why everywhere it states that this is a family shard and there are those RULES put in place to protect that. Really you should leave, Troll. if you think any kind of those actions are okay, and that it is okay to attack someone over expressing concern you dont belong here. and of course its up to the GMs if you have broken the rules or not, thats with any kind of authority figure. Police, judges, jurys security guards, GMs, forum moderators. It sounds like you need a lesson in real life.

@Fiernocht read once more everything i wrote, and tell me where i attacked anyone anywhere? Maybe you will found yourself under the word attack? I just wrote strong advice and i stick to it. No matter how protective we all get, jerks always pop up, even here apparently, otherwise we wouldnt even talk about it. Probably i will learn many more lessons in my life, its shame only that some think they ve eaten them all up when given a life.

@fixxer1963 What happened to your original post? How could you possibly know that information? Am i not safe here?

Please +N +C or +V close this thread. It's leading us nowhere and magnifying an issue that is practically non-existant in our beloved shard.
