What about the folks running world chat macro advertisements 24/7? Is that not an AFK macro that results in a gain of wealth? I notice one individual has advertised every 66 minutes or so for the last few days at least. Maybe he's just that hard core.
I remember seeing a forum post about this not too long ago, but I can't find it now. I also remember seeing a staffer (+R I think) reiterating the rules and warning spammers that the rules will be enforced if someone reports them.
From the codex: f. We don't like spam - announcements in public chat must be 60 minutes and 12 lines of other player's text apart, there can be at maximum 12 single-line announcements in a day. Do not send unsolicited private messages to other players.
There's a more in-depth explanation too: Announcements are considered messages that raise attention of all players, whether they are related to trade (buying, selling, ...), calling attention to a spawn (champion spawn, boss, ...), guild recruiting, and similar. If such an announcement is repeated, there must be at least 60 minutes in between, and there must be at least 12 lines of other player's text in between. A player is permitted to make at maximum 12 such announcements in a shard day (from 0:00 to 23:59 shard time). If two or more coordinated players (such as members of the same guild) are announcing the same thing, it's considered to be announcement by the same player (e.g. that a guild is recruiting new members).
So basically, if they're violating the rules, report them.

mojo is correct. The rule you quoted wouldn't apply (in my opinion) because they are not directly profiting from it, so it would be allowed while afk, like hiding.
However, they are limited to 12 ads per day, and need at least 12 lines of chat in between AND also only 1 per 60 minutes.
It would make sense if we adjusted this rule, so that announcements can only be done while at the keyboard. But then, if someone posts it, and we check then 60 seconds later... the rule would then have to be "you have to be at the keyboard for 60 seconds after posting an ad" ... overall hard to enforce.

I think this is why so many shards eventually opt for a [m chat that can be turned off for market stuff and let that free for all less hassle as you say, hard rule to enforce
I keep hoping that a Trade channel will be added as well. One that can be turned off and on as needed. Keep all the Spam/junk out of the main world chat
My interpretation of the rule, is gaining wealth for nothing. Afk resource farming is gaining wealth without paying with your time. Selling things in WC still costs you the item you are selling. You arent getting something for nothing like afk resource gathering.

Seems to me that Grundick was being courteous and scheduling his post for 90 mins apart rather than 60 mins. However, the world chat was dead during this time. That would make meeting the 12 text line requirement difficult.
Seems to me that pointing this out is really knit-picking and trying to cause and issue where in this case there really shouldn't be one.
The 12 line rule is there for a reason. 9 out of 12 lines I posted is spam. How is this nit-picking? When I open Portal to see what's up I don't wanna see a wall of ads. And no, muting someone doesn't help on Portal (only in game).
I have to agree that he has only posted an ad 90 minutes appart and been mindful of the rules where possible trying to space it an hour and a half appart, if that it irking you though I suggest a cup of tea with a cookie and take some chill time to not sweat the small things in life
Y'all arguing with rules posted by +Req in this thread, not with my opinion. There's enough spam in chat already. If you don't mind it - that's fine, move along and eat your cookies, no need to get involved.
