About the market section

Post by Gaara »

Making a new thread for this since Warren started the discussion but i don't want to hijack the other thread:
qbf wrote:Most people just maintain their own buying and selling list on forums, see Gaaras as a perfect example that's been going on for ages... thread started in 2013, still up to date with current buying and selling and near the top of the board.

Edit them with new items and bump it back up to the top, but I don't think you need a new forum post for every new item. You can even edit the title so it looks like a new post and gets new reads. It ends up clogging up the marketplace board and pushing other people's threads off the page. Already most of the recent first page worth of threads are yours MUOLKE (a few other like Billy Blacksmith and Cengaver also do this) and most are now dead threads...
What i do used to be the norm and i wish this would be enforced as a rule.

So, my suggestion is: One thread per player for their WTB/WTS needs, simply edit the main post and post a reply to bump it. Monthly bumps or when you get new stock (as long as it's not too frequent, like max weekly bumps?) or something similar.

This way relevant topics don't get buried under market spam and actually show up on the front page of the webpage & other WTS/WTB posts don't get buried either under new weekly/daily threads by the same players...

Edit: formatting and typos

Yes actually, i have 4 post in market section now, all bc is sold and my old "Spot Sale" topic closed, closed means, not writing sold to title, but i am not bumping anymore, but later time if i got another bc for sale, i wish use this topic again.

Why i am using 3 topic in one time:

+"Spot Sale" topic for spot items, concantrate one item selling, bc, sot, titan hammer, dreadnought or etc.

+"Decorative" topic for all my decorative items with photos, now i have over 20-30 decorative item mounth deed or etc.

+"Main" topic for all my other buyings or sellings item over 200 item ps, arty, quest, most wanted or etc.

if i merge all topic and using only 1 topic, topic wery long and its looks like a turmoil :D nobody can understand what i am selling or what adding or removing....

But i must say actually idk how many topic limit for per player , but i agree, i saw many player open a topic for, single item, and open new topic for ewery single item, lol i saw sometime ago one player opened a topic for only one power scroll i have nearly 60 power scroll on my vendor...

This time i choice open a topic per catagory , my vendor have 403 item now, i am selling item many catagories, other player have 10 item in vendor, can we say this 2 vendor must have equal percentage of totally market and topic count?

note: i cant find qbf another thread for your queted

Why does everything have to be enforced? Why does everything have to be a rule? Why can't people just play how they want?

I don't follow what problem you're trying to solve.

"view active topics" shows you the last 7 days' posts, regardless of how many there have been. Looking at it now, I don't see an epidemic of any one person drowning others out with posts. When I switch it to 2 weeks I see two players with a couple of threads, but neither has made so many as to be a nuisance.

Frankly, I'd much rather see folks post in the market section here, however many times they need to, than spam the world chat. The latter really annoys me.

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to the buy/sell threads.

For one thing, you're wasting your title. Use the inverted pyramid format from Journalism: the headline should tell the whole story. The first paragraph should tell the whole story again with a little more detail. Then every remaining paragraph should fill in the story in order starting with the most important facts. The story should be complete at the end of any paragraph.

Is the story that you're buying and selling? That's a boring story. Tell a better one.

For another thing, you're usually posting to say that you're still selling the same thing. If you are, then sure: it's polite to bump your old thread so I don't have to bother reading it again. But if you have something new to say and you bump an old thread with it, I probably won't notice.

Some people take it upon themselves to police the forums and really go off the rails when someone breaks one of their own made up rules

Hey now, last I checked neither one of us is in a position where it's reasonable to say, "butt out." The only way for this to be our community is for it to be Gaara's too. I may question his assumptions but I see no cause to question his motives. Let's both of us expect that he's trying to make the world a better place and offer -constructive- criticism, yes?

I wasn't telling anyone to butt out, I wasn't even referring to Gaara either. I'm relaxed about the forums and was just trying to answer your question. That said, the person(s) who does rage on people for posts they deem improper, I think that is a bit excessive and not cool, let's all have a good time here with no drama :)

Bottom line is, people are selfish and think they own the shard and own the forums, thus having many active threads open at the same time.

We need a buy section and a sell section and 1 post per person. I remember going back to my old thread so i could edit it and add new things and it wouldnt allow me to edit my original post so i had to make a new thread. That would solve issues for some people, the rest, eh, theyre just selfish.

Not unlike when say a new player comes to shard and on their first post a few days in they bash the GMs, bash how things are run and whine and complain about a gaggle of others things in the matter of days, all the while asking for things to change to suit them. Now that's selfish.

In the 47 days you've been on the forums you've made 37 posts. That's 0.8 posts per day.

I've been on the forum 1,592 days and have 220 posts. That's 0.14 posts per day. This means that you post 570% MORE than I do. Now who owns what? If anything this shows that perhaps you're the one that has "issues" here. Perhaps Charon put it more eloquently in his post.

This is a free game. Nobody owes you anything. Everyone is here to play a a game and have a little fun. There's honestly been more drama on these forums since you've joined the shard then there has been in the 4.5 years i've been here. Why is that? Seriously...just relax and play the game without worrying about what everyone else is doing (or not doing). It makes things so much more enjoyable.

I find it hilarious how all the spammers stuck up for each other. Go sell your overpriced crap with 10 active sale threads and stop chatting ****.

Youre selfish, just own it and deal with it.

In all seriousness how old are you? I'm guessing 15-16 based on your actions in the past month that you've been on the server. Do you complain as much in real life? Do the kids at school all pick on you or something?
