Player Buying Vendor Option
Player Buying Vendor Option
I seen this once on Sphere (way back when ...)
On a player's porch, one could set up a vendor that "purchases" goods when dropped to his head. To set up, one would receive a gump with a list of things he would buy and a price for each to choose from. The owner would have to keep gold on it to purchase said items from players.
To see what a vendor purchases, one would say, Vendor Buy in the same way, but would receive a scrolling message on top of the vendors head with a list and a price. ie: Spined Leather - 20 gp, Diamonds - 200 gp, Gold Ingots - 100 gp etc.
Of course each item would have to be the same RUNUO name so that when one drops say a pile of 100 Spined Leather onhis head, the person would receive 2000 gp. as long as the gp was on the vendor.
Then the item would go into the vendor owners bank.

not bad, there used to be a vendor stone, in the RunUO scripts.. I may even have it, that players put their stuff on to sell, it more or less did away with vendor malls as all that was needed was this stone. you slected an item to sell, target it, type in a price, and poof the item disapears, and anyone standing at a vendor stone (usually at each bank) can then buy the item.. might be a bit much of a change since so much effort went into the vendor mall here.. though it would not stop people from setting up vendors at their own houses.
It's a good idea, and would help new people quite a bit. as a New player, i wasnt all that thrilled with the fact that the NPC smiths didnt buy ingots.. made things a littl rough for me. But, Tribecca's idea could bypass that problem... might it be possible to allow people to place BUY orders on such a system? Billy bob wants to sell 1200 iron ingots, he clicks ont he stone, and sees someone has a buy order up for 10K Iron, and sells his ingots... the 10K buyer was the highest bidder, so his order is filled first, once it is filled, the next highest bidder begins to get ingots... etc..
dont mind me, am a marketer from way back

For stackable items, you have Exex which is accessible through the portal. Not as many users as one might hope though.
There's a system called "xanthos auction system" which is basically the same thing, but would work for anything. That's something i would like to put in.

yes, i would love to see a in game auction system like there is on WOW, a person adds their item to the ingame auction, sets the amount they want it to start at, and depending on how much it sells for and how long they wish it to run determines the "house cut" the money is deposited in their bank... and it has a search type option where you can sort by item type etc.

Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
on another shard my bro plays on, they have a similar auction system, except its a player base auction, so in other words, insted of spending an hour at the weekend auctions here on excelsior goin thru player submitted items... or worse, seeing auction items start at market price, an nobody buys cuz its too high (a waste of space for those of us who wanted to submit something starting auction price), we can leave it at this player submitted auction... and of course if any of you staff want to drop a thing or 2 in it, that would be fun... would also eliminate the auction over chat (seems like every few mins its "whats goin on?" "whats the last bid?")... and once the player wins the auction, incase he/she is logged out, when they log in a message pops up and says "congrats you have won the [item] for [xprice]"

Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
In Game auction is always fun. Regarding this post though, each player pretty much has a list of favorite things they always buy. Like me for instance, I will always buy baords at a certain price and arrows at a certain price.
This way, all someone has to do is show up at my house and open the gump to see what I am paying for things. Then drop the item or stack on the vendor (need new name for this - Player Buyer?) and the gold will go into their bank.

Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
The Exex is essentially the WoW auction house, people just decide not to use it.
Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
I had no idea about this! I'll try to spread the word and use it more often.

I guess I dont undertstand EXEX, or how it works, i read a bit about it and was confused, which is why I dont use it.......
Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
You can place sell or buy orders and people access it through the portal.
The only thing you have to do in game is put the item or cash in a Exex deposit box. It's basically the WoW auction house with the deposit box instead of a mailbox. And that you can place buy orders, which the WoW AH doesn't have.

Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
Only drawback being that you can only sell 'stackable' items on it (all commodities, tokens, essences, organics to name a few) if it allowed others, even just PS's or deed-type items, that would be fantastic.
Maybe even add in something that tracks the average prices things normally sell for and updates a list to show people how much they'll expect to pay/gain. This would cut back a TON on the 'how much for X powerscroll?' 'whats bio tool worth?' etc.

Re: Player Buying Vendor Option
I have had the vendors that sell and buy at shops on other places. It is an option that is put on the regular vendors and we had to keep lots of gold on them to cover the buying. They had the menu to sell and the menu to buy and the items sold were priced by the vendor when you told it how much to sell items for. The buying menu was resources and empty kegs and bottles.
This worked great for both buyer and seller. Dont know what the scripting would be to put the buying part on the vendors we already have nor if staff would even have the time to try. Would love to have this on vendors again but I'm pretty sure would be way down at bottom of the "to do" list if staff even thought about it. Have a good day all
