need tips for lumber with gargoyle axe!

need any tips you can give me for successfully lumbering with gargoyle axe. I have 3 pets in guard mode and can't seem to figure out how not to get insta killed by wood elementals.

250 hit points and all 70's. Parry and dci also helps. Last time i was mining, out of 25 elementals, i got hit 4 times. Survived all of the hits (avarage 215 damage). So parry and defence chance made them miss 21 times out of 25.

okay, I will look more into getting up my defense chance increase and also some higher hp. thanks for the repsonse!
