Young Player Box

Post by Nelapsi »

Okay +C I know you are doing a lot so take this with a grain of salt but just something I thought of when figuring out how I am going to do my house.

A chest people can purchase from the token stone that allows only the house owner to use and any young player (By that I mean a player of young status). This would allow people with established homes and even businesses to offer things to new players without fear of being raided.

Anyways, just an idea I thought was interesting and could help

Liking the idea but needs to be clarified a little, not sure where these young players will put these boxes

The boxes wouldn't belong to the new player, they would just be accessible by the young player and whoever owns the box. I guess if the young player wanted one of these boxes they could have one, but would need a house/business to actually use and make public.

I think its a neat idea.

The problem with this idea is the same as with the public newbie boxes - regardless of whether the owner can see into it or not, it can be raided. I think an idea that would work better is limiting the ability to take out items from newbie boxes. For example you can take only 5 or 10 a day (or perhaps 15 on first day to get geared and 2-3 later for upgrades). That'd make it a bit harder to clean out a chest. I've seen (ad did it myself couple of times) vets drop 30 or 40 items (jewelry, weapons, armor) into the boxes only to see the boxes empty the next day. No way we have so many youngs that (for example) 40 warhammers can disappear in one day. While the rules state that those raiding the boxes will be punished, I'm not sure it is actually enforced. And I can probably see why not - it takes too much time/effort to look through the logs to hunt down whoever did it. It's like organizing a nation-wide hunt for someone who stole a sweetroll. ;)

ps. Nelapsi - *you* want to give something away? For free? :P

How do you think I keep the item count down at my house?

It sounds like a good idea, but the only concern is that an established player could ask a friend or a new player to help em raid the young player box. e.g.

Young player - Hi everyone, I am new
Larsa - Hey new do you want to make good gold?
Young player - Sure, it helps...
Larsa - Come with me...lets raid Nelapsi's young box. I will give you xxx gold for any good item you see in there.
Young player - Sure!! It looks like a good deal
Larsa - Now... crappy items do not reward you gold ok?
Young player - How would I know?
Larsa - Don't worry I will let you know (sinister laughter)

Not saying that Nelapsi is going to throw in a Titan's Hammer or a relayer... but this is to address Nelapsi's fear of his stuff being taken away and then seen at a nearby vendor.

In another note, not that I am against new players.... I was once new ya know?!? And when I started Ranrock treated me good... he didn't give me overpowered stuff or mules or nobles or ps's . He gave me a starter gear (not talking about plat platemail neither 70's resists type) and also pointed me to the right direction. What you want to give to the new players is up to you... heck! I do the same... I give them a full 100% LRC suit, a good wep/bow/shield, gold to get them started, and advice. So let em grill the skills as we all did and let them learn to walk before they learn to run.

The young player's box is a good idea just needs to be tweaked... if you want to help em... just announce it in chat and I am pretty sure that they will go to you for your freebies.

Personally I would just prefer a [donate system, similar to the [claim. You target an item and this automagically moves the item to the Young chests in the new player room!
Maybe you get a Deco item if x number of new players use your donated gear for y amount of time - a bell or something maybe that says "[PLAYER NAME] - Donating to the Needy since [DATE]".

Would look good locked down I think!
