Relayers and Imbuing
Relayers and Imbuing
I have been looking into relayering for some time. It, for me, is a very expensive thing to do- spending so much money on a digital item that can only be used in this particular game. It literally is the difference between eating ad paying bills vrs. playing, and I am not sure the wife and kids would appreciate it! I vote every day, all 4 places, but lately things have been so screwed up with the voting system who knows when it will work again. So, I decided I would get along with out them. Besides, with the new rules about being able to buy sell or trade them, it isn't really worth it anymore.
The alternative: Imbuing. Imbuing allows minor enhancements that are otherwise not possible from a crafter. It is disabled on this shard ( I imagine because it competes too much with re-layering and the risk of income loss or something..) I would like to see if there is some way of bringing Imbuing BACK into UO and helping to put a good spark back into crafting. I love crafting. I see tons and tons of crafted items. Some are better than a lot of the artifacts. but with crafting, there is always that 1 point away from being a perfect item. The levelable weapon provides you a chance to make enhancements to your weapon to over come those issues, yet half of those changes can not be relayered onto your armor- like weapon hits and so on. Therefore you level a weapon to be used as a relayer item, or you level it to be used as a really good weapon, which limits you on how you choose to play.
It kind of seems like everyone here is more interested in "The End Game" rather than the game. (Which I dont understand- who wants to play the end game before they played the beginning and middle? i mean- whats the point?)
I would like to see imbuing in some form or fashion be available. even if we had to pay for an imbuing deed which only aloud 5 points of a small set of attributes, and an item could only be imbued once. At least talk about ways to make it available to us.
Thoughts?

Re: Relayers and Imuing
The concept of imbuing in osi allowed you to add stats to an item if you had the materials and limited to how many total stats you could add.
it was mostly used for weapons to get those "perfect ones"
the ability to add a few points could decrease the value of other things that people have already worked hard to make.

Re: Relayers and Imbuing
Did some imbuing on another shard, roughly 85-95% chance to poof the item. Anything less than that would make the good wep drops useless, and folks would surely complain. Of course with a high enough chance to lose the item, and hard to find items req'd to even attempt it might not cause too much imbalance, say 85% chance the item poofs, 10% chance item is unchanged but the req'd imbuing item poofs, 2% chance it removes a random ability from the item (i.e. mana regen), 1% chance it boosts the stat for that particular imbuing item. Of course imbuing items should only drop in fel, maybe from the abominations? maybe from a champ?
If you make it too easy to boost gear then levels/relayers turn out to not be worth it, and they are pretty powerful now. Ask any of the relayered out vets how hard most of fel is on average

Re: Relayers and Imbuing
if i were to wear all my relayers, i could sit in fel with 5 balrons hitting me, while i have enemy of one on something else and im taking double damage, and still not drop below half health.Jahn wrote:Did some imbuing on another shard, roughly 85-95% chance to poof the item. there is no need for imbuing.

Re: Relayers and Imbuing
But isn't that kinda the point? Not everyone can afford to be completely decked out in relayers. As someone who is more interested in housing and other trivial things that still require lots of $$, it would make it easier for those of us without copious amounts of dispensable income to still enjoy some of the middle-game content and an opportunity to edge into the late-game stuff without spending hundreds of dollars. Just my 2 cents.
Re: Relayers and Imbuing
Adding imbuing to the shard the way it stands today would just be far too many headaches for what it'd be worth. It's not a viable time vs reward investment, so I wouldn't count on ever seeing it on Excelsior.
That said, +V is implementing an imbuing-esque system in Touria called amalgamation that will allow players to more thoroughly customize their weapons and armor. If this system is successful, I will also implement it into Elysium at a later date.

There is a song, it's called 'I can't wait' and it's playing in my head right now+Nyx wrote:Adding imbuing to the shard the way it stands today would just be far too many headaches for what it'd be worth. headache?? you mean to get it up and running or to control it? Will this "Algamation" be as overpriced as a relayer deed?+Nyx wrote:Adding imbuing to the shard the way it stands today would just be far too many headaches for what it'd be worth. Re: Relayers and Imbuing
Relayer deeds only seem "overpriced" to those who don't want to actually work toward earning them. It isn't hard to get the money for relayer deeds if one is willing to actually play the game the way it was meant to be played - progressively, not jumping right to the end game - and if one is willing to work toward that goal. It might seem a bit scary a price for a newbie, but once you've spent some time here and played through the shard a bit, you'll realize it's easy to come by gold (and thus EDs).
But yes, amalgamation will be costly and time-consuming. Touria is intended for the highest level players only, so you won't be able to waltz in there and have it handed to you.

Re: Relayers and Imbuing
wow. That's a pretty brazen statement dont you think? I am not trying to cheat the game the way you all do with the relayers and I AM playing the game the way it was meant to be played. I was playing since before it was online and played OSI for close to 8 years. Go ahead, and tell me how to play this game. All I asked was for a discussion on implementing it not how much of a headache you would get if it were to happen.

In before the lock!
Re: Relayers and Imbuing
This shard was made with custom content. If you joined and it's not an osi-like shard that you were expecting..no one's holding you down forcing you to play excelsior. But how can you call anyone a cheat for using a relayer when there's also things that can kill people with themBardkin wrote:wow. That's a pretty brazen statement dont you think? You're playing the game how it was meant to be played? I'll walk you to the entrance of sgail and see your opinion on them after

Re: Relayers and Imbuing
Well you know, THE thing about UO is the amazing range of ways to play it. From banker to powerplayer, from crafter to tamer... can there really be any discussion about how "the game is meant to be played"? As in real life, probably the most important rule of behaviour is "live and let live". Play the game the way u want, and let others do the same
That said, there's nothing wrong about suggesting changes/enhancements that could better our beloved shard, just don't get a cow about it from the start xD
