Silver Sandals - please!

Post by Viola »

Long ago, when I played live on Napa Valley (and by long ago I mean this is way back... I even did closed beta testing for UO: Third Dawn), the escort npc ladies, sometimes called 'brides' due to their fancy white dresses, wore a beautiful variety of colored sandals. The most coveted of which was the Silver sandal! *sighs*

All the 'bride' escort npcs I see here wear thigh boots, yes, they're different colors, but nothing that makes me want to take them out of the reach of guards and assassinate them for their shoes. *shakes head in disappointment*

So, since obviously, the idea was to remove the incentive to murder the poor NPCs, so they took away the cool shoes. My question is what could -I- do and/or donate to get the wonderful silver sandals of long ago, preferably blessed. ;)

I'm assuming that the colored sandal varieties still exist in the game somehow, that is my hope anyway.

I'm not here to fight monsters. I'm not here to min/max or figure out the gear. I'm here to craft, play with player housing, and become a merchant of crafted goods.

P.S. It'd be really awesome if the heartwood craft/recipe quests were in place because again me + monsters = lolz. I'd love to craft my way towards elven recipes.

Disclaimer: This is by no means a "donate now" post. Further down, I outline what you need to obtain these sandals entirely in-game as well. I merely cite donation as a faster option.

First off, I am assuming this silver hue is special or iridescent in some way, and therefore requires a universal dye tub to simulate. I doubt it can be obtained from any regular dye tub or veteran reward dye tub, or else you would not be asking here as the method of obtaining them would be painfully obvious (dye normal sandals with said tub).

Now, via donation it's a pretty trivial matter to create these sandals, assuming you don't mind forking out a bit of cash for pixels - and in this case pixels that only satisfy nostalgia goggles rather than granting some substantial game benefits like the other Excelsior Dollar (hereafter referred to as ED) rewards.
You'd need:
  • a regular pair of sandals from the cobbler
    a universal dye tub
    an item bless deed
The universal tub is used to obtain the exact silver hue (check the Hue Room statues for the hue number and plug it into the tub) and the bless deed fulfills your desire that the sandals be blessed.

Donating 10 USD would give you 100 ED and a bonus unitub.
Normally, 50 of those 100 ED would go towards an Item Bless Deed, after which you'd be set - you would have all the items you needed and 50 ED spare.
However, you can sell the ED at 30k gold each on the in-game market, and then buy an Item Bless Deed for a million gold (from the Trinsic Gold Stone) which works out to be 2/3rds of the effective cost compared to buying said Deed with ED (since 50 ED is worth 1.5 million gold).
You'd also have 50 ED left over, a slick 1.5 million gold (or another 50 ED reward if you wished).

You can also get away with donating a mere 5 bucks.
You'd get 50 ED, sell those for 1.5 million gold, and buy the 1 million gold bless deed and the unitub for 100k, and have 400k left over to mess around with.

I also heard you could get clothing bless deeds via higher Tailoring BODs, but I have not confirmed this myself.
If these do exist, they would certainly be cheaper than the 1 million gold Item Bless Deeds (since they only work on clothing, after all).
You'll probably want to get confirmation on the existence of clothing bless deeds first, since you may be able to obtain them purely by doing your favored crafting (large tailor BODs), and that would mean all you need to spend is the 100k for a unitub, meaning it can be done entirely in-game.
Even if clothing bless deeds don't exist you can still do it entirely in-game with 1,100,000 gold total. But with your insistence to be a pure crafter that may take some time unless you focus entirely on gathering materials and selling them. Since to craft most lucrative items with sane chances of success you will require powerscrolls in multiple skills, which will put a dent in your income for a good while.

Unfortunately, I don't think a dye tub cant duplicate the nuances of NPC or regular, undyed sandals. When you dye them, they become blocky and matte. Unless this has changed recently? There used to be a variety of sandal colors, that were clearly not tub dyed, but made that way with the correct tones and finish of highlights and lowlights that undyed sandals have. There were reds, blues, and silver (perhaps some other shades as well). Anyway, I guess it doesn't help anyone make money or whatever, but it was one of my favorite items back then. :P

On OSI maybe, but they don't have Universal Dyetubs, which have over 2000 hues you can pick from. Check out the Hue Room under Custom on the telepad menu and you'll see why we're pretty confident you can get the shade you're looking for. :)

May I suggest the following:

-Source -
Create Hive Boots that are to your liking.

-Manipulate Appearance -
Obtain an Armor Appearance change for 100Ed, whereby changing the boots into Sandals. (This option would allow you a pair of shoes which are not simply bare, but have some benefit. This is not neccesary, however it is an efficient option for optimizing this layer at the lesser cost.)

-If the ED is obtained through donation -
you will receive a Universal Dye Tub as a bonus gift.

-else -
You may purchase one in the game when available. You may then hue the Sandals the color you so desire (I can advise you of the best option for a truly silver hue).

-Clothing Blessed Deed -
This is confirmation that you can get them through Tailor BOD's as rewards. I cannot confirm that they will bless sandals.

-else -
Item Bless Deed for 1 million gold.

-Item Name Change Deed -
The cost is 50ed and you may then name them whatever you like, if "Silver Sandals" or simply "Sandals".

This is simply a suggestion on how to receive such an item through available means.

Well, wonderful story here: I was exploring the house gates, just clicking on the tiles, seeing the names, and what belonged to whom. I came across a really charming name, and I was like. 'Oh! I have to visit there.' So off I went, and I found this awesome house. Everything in it was really pretty and laid out perfectly. It even had its own super adorable sheep pen! And then I came across this room that had a book. I read the player's little story, and at the end, it said as a reward for reading this book you'll find something for you in the elegant armoire. So, I went over and opened it up, and tah dah! there was a single pair of hive boots. :)

The house was deserted, bees were gone, flower pots were dry, etc., but what a nice thing to find that someone left a gift behind for a visitor. I thanked them on their bulletin board, and now I have hive boots.

I also have 200 ED and one universal dye tub left. So I think that's enough for the armor change for 100 ED, the bless deed for 50 ED (or probably sell the 50 ED since it'd make more than the 1,000,000gp to buy an item bless deed), and the name change for 50ED.

I looked in the hue room and thought 2134 MIGHT be close to what I remembered the true silver sandals to looking like, but if you have a better hue suggestion for truly silver, I'd like to know because I don't want to mess this up.

I'd like to make an appointment with you to make this item happen, when you have time. :)
