Champ spawns
Champ spawns
Some people (BRO guild 2x now), refusing people entry to champ spawns is not fair. I propose a limit to how many champ spawns a single account can be a part of for a powerscroll/loot/skull per day. This allows everyone to participate, and helps eliminate hoarding by certain people or guilds. There are I think 10 champ spawns on a 6-10 hour timer, and the others on 24 hour or more. So, i would think by limiting it to say 5 per day, per account, everyone gets to be a part of one, and has a chance to do them without being locked out by greedy folks who want them all to themselves.
edit -----------------------------
Or upon further thought, maybe just raising the time limit people are allowed to join... I agree its not fair for someone to jump in at the last second, but just because they miss the first wave, or aren't on the 'cool team' shouldn't lock them out and remove an enjoyable part of the game from them.

Re: Champ spawns

I agree with you about limiting champs per day, though i don't that's the definitive answer to the problem...
That would make easier to young players experience the champions, or fight them at all, because as it is there are always the same people farming them...
The solution i guess would be people just be nicer i guess, or punish bad behaviour.
Re: Champ spawns
I know this is going to come off as inflammatory, but why do you think you should get in when the champ is already half over?

Re: Champ spawns
Well, at least for me, and i'm not saying that when if you hit like 14 - 16 or wathever amount of candles alone you should let someone in for free just like that, but when you are in a group of people, in one of the easier champs, all spamming druids spells, can't you just let the person join in? Could be a new player, or maybe just someone who missed it for a few minutes the spawn and is there only to try and get a ps and doesnt even want the gold...
After i lost my young status, took my a whole month till i was able to get in time for a champ and not be kicked out...
that was quite a frustration when i only wanted to see how different it was, since at my young stage i went one time only to the newbie champ... now i always accept people to join, after all, isn't great when you keep checking a spawn and when you get there, it's already late, several candles up and they allow you to join? You think: wow, phew, thought i lost it, it's my lucky day!
I just think it's more fun when everybody have fun

Re: Champ spawns
Because some people don't have the time or the friends to camp all the spawns at the same time, and then get essentially pushed out by those that do. Guilds that run champs obviously already have more of an advantage, by being able to check multiple places at once, and instant knowledge of whats up when someone is there, I just want a more level playing field for those that don't have that advantage.
Re: Champ spawns
Having had been a part of both sides of this conflict, here are my thoughts:
1. Prevent Bracelets of Binding from being worn and/or used within 5 or so screens from a champion spawn area. Its very frustrating when you and a friend or three have a champ at 5-6 red candles, a person joins in, then in a few seconds they have half of their online guildies/friends pop out of nowhere.
2 This has been talked about, from what I hear: limit how many pets a player can have attacking the Champion. Or how many they can have at the champ spawn. Hell, make the Champion always target the weakest pet and have a Pet Slayer attribute, for all I care. Erm.. except for Kronus.
3. Make a limit of how many people can be active in a champ spawn - say, 10 people. Should any of those people be inactive or away from the area for 3-5m, then their spot on the 'roster' can be filled by another person (through the vote process of course, if applicable).
4. If this ^ were implemented, change the rewards so that every participant gets an equal share of gold, but the chance at a Powerscroll is determined by the percentage of damage you do on the Champion.
5. Instead of a flat cap on how many champs per day, do a 'cooldown' period to where you cannot participate in a champ spawn for 30-60m after receiving PS[s]/Gold (or just PS, should #4 be enacted) from another Champion. Add a [cooldown command to see how much time is remaining.
6. Have it so Champions only drop as many Powerscrolls as there are players at the champ (maximum), plus one or two. The one/two player[s] who deal[t] the most damage will get the bonus scroll[s].
7. When the Champion appears, she/he/it should be invulnerable for 5-10s (and/or after the rest of the mobs are killed) and a message appears on every participant's screen notifying them - maybe include a message after every candle or tier change as well.
8. Make the three Recall-able champion spawn areas the exact opposite - also have it to where you cannot Recall/SJ/whatever out of champ areas.
9. If you are 'camping' a champ (one that is inactive), you have five minutes to move out of the area, else you suffer a 30-minute 'cooldown' period (see #5) which is cumulative to any others you have. There should be distinct messages to let you know when you enter and exit the areas - as well as three minutes, one minute and 10 second warnings.
Just my two.. maybe five cents - flame away, make my day.

You could always try to get into a guild that does champs. Or are you too good for a guild?
Let me get this right, you want to be brought up to the level of half a dozen gamers who watch spawns constantly? how fair would that really be really. If you can't get in a champ because you're not in a guild that does them then you should be seeking out a guild not the administration to have a pity party for you because you lack intopersonal skills.

Re: Champ spawns
Nakkasu said it best, maybe you're just not in the right guild! And please dont say anything about the Bro guild, which i am a member of btw! We dont camp champ spawns, we just know the times they are going up, and we have maybe 10 peoples running the different locations to see if they are up. So again it all comes down to working for what you have! Dont complain cause you cant get into champs if you dont do the scouting and killing and arrive too late! Accepting someone in a champ isn't a rule, its just a question of why accept someone after the 8th candle and take the chance to not have a Ps yourself after doing half the work before the late comers arrive! Specialy if there are already 6 or more people there!
So dont blame the Bro guild! We are a very active guild and do our share for the Excelsior community! Dont judge!

Yes, I do not think naming and shaming is allowed.
OT: What ^ said, get in a different guild then. You want to penalize people for playing more than you just because you can't play a lot?

Re: Champ spawns
I'll try to keep this polite and brief.
I think the current lock out system is alright. I've never had any problems joining a champ. If I get there to late and I don't know any one working it (to let me in) oh well, I was snoozing on the time check and missed out. I don't think that those who were there before me are doing anything wrong by not letting me in. It's their champ, they found it and worked it up so they can do what they like with it. If they want to let me join, great! If not, no problem on to the next one.
I'm unsure what the big deal is about people not wanting to do other people's work for them is!?
They/I spent the time to run to the champs to see if they are up, keep track of the previous round's spawn times to give an indication of the next spawn time, worked the spawn up and perhaps they/I want the extra 20-50k that is gained from not letting others in for my trouble.
Sure I'll let people who are in my circle of friends in because the sharing has gone both ways, I've done the work and let them in before and they have done the work and let me know I should come join as well.
Look at it this way, you have to roll a big stone over the top of a hill and you will get paid $100. You roll it up to the top, stop to catch your breath and some one happens along. "oh hey let me push this over the edge with you and we can split the money". How do you think that plays out? Sure that's a bit black and white but it's the same concept.
lastly, all this "it's soooo hard to find and get into champs it took me 9 years before I got my first scroll" is such BS. I'm really not trying to pat myself on the back but champs are how I got my start on this shard. I spent one night GMing the requisite fight skills, the next day farming gold for a blaze of death and that was it. I didn't know a single soul on the shard, heck I didn't even FULLY know how the champ timer worked and yet I had no problem joining into the circuit and by the next day I was at 90% of all champs done and got a scroll each time. Granted I'm a UO vet and I know how to spawn properly, but you don't have to know anything to get in, just be there, be online, have fingers to move your char. I will say that part of the reason I was "accepted" into the spawn group is because I actually work the spawn, I'm not a 2 step spawner ( Step 1: Stand in some one else's trees. Step 2: "All guard me").
Anyway, Blaze had some good thoughts as usual, I like some of them for sure. I will say I am completely against limiting the number of champs an account can take part in per day. What that is saying is basically "Well I don't want to do as much work as you do so you can only work hard for a little bit then have to take a break so I can halfheartedly do things and still get profit" One of the tings I LOVE about UO is that there is a pretty static Effort:Profit ratio. Sure things are a bit out of wack here because you can either kill it with your macros running or it 1 shots you but champs are still upholding the tradition. Want to get a bunch of scrolls? Better put in the time to keep tabs on the spawns and be sure you're there before lockout.

Re: Champ spawns
Sure it's frustrating when you're a rather generous person, and you run into greedy people, but at the same time, that's just the way it is.
If I show up and there are already 3 people there spamming enchanted grove/volcanic eruption, and it's over half way, I don't hardly ever expect to get in.
However, all that said, I think the current system is ok. I do, however, think that the more people there/the faster the mobs are dying, the longer each wave should take. That way you can't get 5 druids in there and do the whole thing in 5 minutes. Theres an idea... instead of making the waves based on kills, make it based on time. hehe. but.. whatever. it's not really a necessity... so whatever. If you come to a champ that is over half-way over, and you don't know anyone there... then just forget it. walk away, and find another champ.

Re: Champ spawns
I do not believe we should seriously consider anything that punishes hard work. I am pretty new here and champ spawns are much different here than on OSI but I am getting the hang of it. I do wish that players could spawn champs through the virtue system here like on OSI. An idea that may appease the casual champers is to perhaps limit the number of scrolls dropped to the ppl that worked the champ from the very beginning and then throw in some scrolls and arties that drop randomly to players that do dmg to the champ. That way the workers still get the scrolls but the late comers have a chance of something cool as well.
Re: Champ spawns
or we could make no changes at all and just stop being obsessive about 1 element of a very multi-dimensional shard, honestly I think most of the problems occur in peak times, but still another of that particular champ will be along in 6 hours, there are how many champ spawns? you can still find a champ thats up and likely free of people at many hours of the day...
I am curious as to how people can say "its unfair to NOT vote me in" like people are obligated if I happen upon a guild doing a champ and its at 8 candles.. I may attempt to get in, but I by no means expect a hey yes, and if they vote no to allowing me in.. I say thats totally fair game and logical.
Achieving the 8 candles is over half the event of a champ spawn start to finish.. if I am there after the voting is begun I know I am relying on the charity of all those in the champ spawn to be allowed in.. if they worked to get that far, why should I expect them to just hand me the benefits of the power scroll and gold dropping champ they are nearly done.. if they don't vote me in, I accept it move on, and do one of the other million or so things on the shard for a while, or find another champ spawn.. I also rarely do them.. because I see so many complaining about what amounts to very little..
the vote system works
the gold drop at the end works well..
this bickering is stupid.. first time I arrived at a champ late I set a timer for 5:50minutes and arrived on time the next time.. it solved all this "voting in stuff"
