thought i would start a thread where peeps could make suggestions on how to keep the economy a little more in check.
my thoughts:
texas hold em script house takes a 8% rake.
rent on house's bigger the house and items the more you have to pay in rent. (not something terrible like 10 mil. we're talking 5k per 18 x 18 per week).
make a daily always stocked raffle small things like +5 luck deeds for 1k per ticket. is there a way to script the stone to always display a new item when one has been won? have a list of things. +5 luck deeds, sandles of ex, virtues stuff.
na, i dont like the idea... maybe you have money to waste in rent or something like that, but i cant donate, so i have to live with the gold counted. Want economy? remove the EDs and the economy will be balanced. I just mean, donors will always have more gold and better items that someone cannot donate, and is 1 of the reasons of the low population, make the gameplay more hard (more realistic) its like take more money from new players... i just want to say this server its made for people can donate, but donator need people to buy your stuff... so make things more harder, is not a solution for an economy.
i like this server, and even if i can do it, i will not donate money, becouse the faster way it is always the most boring way to progress.
...Not even death will save you from me...Deathbringerin game...
Yeah I dont care for it too much either its just gonna make things cheaper for the filthy rich not really helping the lower teervplayers good suggestion tho
Currently I think the economy is in great shape. Just look at ointments, organics and some of the other commodities like that, much lower than I've seen in the last 400 days. Not saying the ideas aren't decent, don't like the house rent, though. Houses are already huge gold sinks with the beloved wand. I love the raffle idea, and know for one I'd sink plenty of money in it and probably never win anything.
I don't quiet understand the idea but im not the brightest person in the world >.<
But as far as the comment about rich vs poor. no one is rich and poor and so what if people donate? O.o there helping the shard out and keeping it running. yes some people donate just to buy things on the shard but whats so wrong with that? there still earning the cash irl and without them donating the shard wouldn't be the same. just my opionon.
I don't suffer with insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.
ok. seriously this hurts the rich more than it does the other classes. 5k a week not much for a single 18 x 18. what this does for the server.
Pro's
1) gold sink for the rich. doesn't really affect much of the single home owners (5k come on you can't afford 5k per week? that's like 1.15 balron kills. jeeze. for someone who has more house's they will pay more *extra house slots are 400 eds so if you say you can't/don't have 5-50k per month then i'd say your lying*).
2) it really makes people plan ahead and make budgeting plans. what, you don't budget in real life, because i do.
3) sign on house is green: rent is paid. red means they have a month. so that solves the house drop thing.
cons
you have to pay 5k per month/week whatever.
Cornbread.
ointments are low because i dumped 10k ointments when umbris first opened driving the prices down, thus making it more affordable. Organics if it wasn't for BETA prices would still cost you 10 mil a bio and organics would still be around 200. side note on that: what would happen if you boycotted bio's? prices of raw materials drop; thus, hurting the new players. sorry got on a rant cause someone before was saying let's boycott lol. there is a lot more to this game than just gear/gold/junk. so many strings attached in so many market places.
Also, let's stop with the people who do and the people who don't ok? that's getting very nerve racking and it's almost to the point where's it's like a race card. oh we can't do that because it hurts the poor. *see above* i know plenty of people who have never donated and can afford something like a house rent. people who have never donated with multiple re layers and house slots. so please, let's stop the poor/rich card aight?
i just looked up one of your old post deathbringer/angmmar hahahaha didn't you just sell a darken sky level 100 for 50 eds or 3 mil? hahahahahahahaha 5k per week you can't afford that hahahahaha.
First.. my gold does not come from selling eds.
Second.. I do not do the raffles so not a good idea for me anyways. Rather spend twice as much and know I get the item.
I like my small house in Lakeshire so pretty happy and content.
The current problem is there is nothing for high end people to buy generally expect for grand auction items. So until staff comes up with something high end people will want to buy and keep returning to buy more, this problem will exist.
1º: I don't hate donators or anybody, just give my opinion about that topic...
2º: of course i can pay a rent 5K per week... but if you read all my post, new players maybe they cannot do it, especially player dont know nothing about UO... like me when i start... i waste all my money in the first 5 months buying Uni-tubs, useless pets and no stat gear... and didn't know what to do all the time...
3º: About help the server and all that, i don't want to say nothing about that topic... (Just as a precaution)
4º: And about the darkness sky... none of your business... just a joke
Sorry i didn't want to offend somebody, it's just my opinion about that...
...Not even death will save you from me...Deathbringerin game...
think of this like property tax. no one like to pay taxes, but we have to for the greater good of others. i mean someone wants a jackal's collar for 2 mil. i remember when they were 150k each.
this rent was just 1 idea. i've seen it on other shards, and it's nice to have a heads up on a house drop. also was a nice little gold sink. of course on the other shards it wasn't 5k but 25k per week. 100k per month per house.
maybe you have money to waste in rent or something like that, but i cant donate, so i have to live with the gold counted.
this is called 'cottonwood creek' btw it's a lawyer term meaning misleading the jury or people. In this case it has to do with seeming to be poor. when in fact you have a lot of gold. ah well no worries.
i think maybe it's time to turn in those 100k daemon bones and drop the prices of golden skulls. :O
Okay, as for my 2 cents (I think I can afford that...)
Just so we are all clear on the meanings of things, a gold sink is basically anything that deletes gold from circulation, or basically any time you give gold to an NPC or a GM. Any time you give gold to another player it stays in circulation.
econ 101. If there is an unlimited supply of gold (monster spawn) there must also be a way out of the system or all prices go up.
ANY way to get gold out of circulation helps stop inflation, but as we have all noticed, we want to take it from the rich not the poor (not a topic for this thread, we'll just take it as given for the sake of this discussion.) This is already done in large part by folks buying ED and spending it on things like relayers. Also in the Grand auction. I don't have numbers, but the reg stone probably sees a good bit of traffic. Mostly from lower end players, as most rich folk only use regs in ointments. Perhaps +Nyx's parties are also a big gold sink, again, I have no numbers.
[exex trading is a good way to establish backflow of gold back into the hands of the less wealthy, and also a gold sink, due to the transaction fee.
I think the goal of this thread is to brainstorm 'gold sinks' that will be attractive to already-wealthy players.
To that end, I agree with the raffle idea +1 =)
Some form of high stakes gambling den may be entertaining, but I don't know how much use it will get (none from me...)
I think a great idea would be GM sponsored PvP tournaments, with an entry fee, and 50% of the total collected entrance fees going to the 1st place winner, 25% going to the 2nd place, 10% to the 3rd place, and 15% to +Whomever-hosts-the-event for being awesome.
It's gonna be Legen....
...
Wait for it...
... And I hope you aren't lactose intolerant, because the next part is...
DARY!!!
(that makes less sense when written... Stupid homonyms...)

Well said Lagos!
"Economics in one Lesson" by Henry Hazlet is a good place to start, think it was 200+ pages. After that, move to "Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith. Lastly, forget everything you may have learned from High School, Collage or the Universities regarding economics. They most likely never opened the cover of Adam Smiths' great works.
oh, then this is a game. And game economics is different from Real World, yet still very similar. Why? Cause people are playing the games. And People are people, whether inside a game or not. However, understanding economy is good whether inside a game or in Real World.
This has been blown out of proportion. Rich vs poor is a silly topic, anyone can have money and without donating. It's just too easy. But I speak on behalf of the 99%ers Again, not to be misinterpretted I just don't agree with some of those ideas. And like someone else posted, don't we waste more money compulsively on stuff like yard wands and other goods or people who attend auctions and pay there vendor and exe and so forth. I do however like the raffle idea to end this on a high note.
My turn to post, since I never post. Ang, your entire argument is built upon the presumption that all people who have an excess of 15 or more million gold are pure donaters. Or.. that those that own relayers only obtained them via donating. Have you ever just considered that some of us.... might have well.... you know.. *worked* for it?
Just a thought. With all the energy people spend whining about how little gold they have, if they applied it to actually gaining gold, then gee... they might actually have gold.
I won't even begin to tell you how much money was spent to create and maintain my Hippo Shop.
-I like the mini raffles myself.
-Rent I'm not crazy about because if you take an extended leave from the game you could loose your home, and all your gold.
-I agree with Nelapsi, vets need more to spend their money on. I wish I could come up with an idea that has not already been talked about before.
We should leave the Rich vs Poor and To Donate or not to Donate topics alone and stick with the spirit of the thread, otherwise its a flame war.
